Not Your Average Homeschool Mom

So, if you do not know already, I left my full-time position at our church and became a full-time homeschool mom for Asher (first grade) and BB (Kindergarten). Was this my first choice? No. Did I explore ALL other options? Yes. Do I have any regrets? Absolutely none.

So why homeschool?

2020 has been FULL of curveballs and script changes. School is no exception. Asher was enrolled in public school, but virtual learning was NOT working for our family. He was frustrated. I was frustrated, and he wasn't learning anything. As a mom, I do not believe that education is everything, but I do recognize its importance and want the best education for both of my kids. They have goals and dreams, and I want to help them accomplish everything that God has purposed for their lives. After exploring all options and considering the financials and schedules, Scott and I decided that I would resign from my job (that I loved) and homeschool.

I am using Abeka, which both provides video instruction and all their textbooks and paperwork as well as test/quiz booklets. This saves me the headache of putting a curriculum together. They also will keep all the kids’ records. This program is still very hands-on, but it makes it easier for me to help both kids at their respective grade levels. Our house is small, so Asher works in the family room while BB uses my desk. We incorporate “PE” when the kids attend outdoor workouts with me or during park playdates. If Scott has to work out of town for an extended period, we have the freedom to pack up the school books and laptops and go with him.

Homeschool is NOT for the faint of heart, and I would be lying if I said that it is easy. We have attitudes that flair up daily, we spend a LOT of time together, and I am not a fan of laziness. I am a “One” on the enneagram after all! 🤷‍♀️ I don’t even pretend that I have it all together or that I really know what I’m doing - but I am looking forward to sharing this journey with you all!
