The Great Decorating Debate of 2020

One of the great "debates" of 2020 is the discussion of WHEN is too early to decorate for Christmas. More people than usual have chosen to decorate early. Some people judge this decision by saying that Thanksgiving is being ignored, rushed, or not given proper attention.

Whenever I worked a retail job, I always hated the fact that Christmas was rushed. Christmas music was always played much too early for my taste, the commercialization was sickening, and I was over the holiday by the time that December 25th arrived. Now, I'm not an over-the-top Christmas person, but I do enjoy the season and the lights and the festiveness of it all. I enjoy seeing nativities and hearing songs that proclaim Jesus's birth. It's just a special time of year. Which usually starts AFTER Thanksgiving.

This year, I decided to decorate early. It's been such a crazy year, and I didn't think that "extra" Christmastime would hurt anything. I'm still adjusting to my new role of a homeschool mom, Scott has been traveling for work a lot, and everything in the world seems so uncertain. The twinkling lights in my living room are definitely a special touch right now. As for Thanksgiving, it has NOT been canceled or ignored. In fact, Scott and I are actually doing the cooking this year instead of being guests, which I am pretty excited about. I am currently planning what to make and what recipes to use!

Growing up, we always had LARGE, real Christmas trees. Everyone had lots of ornaments so the tree was always filled. Scott and I have chosen to have a SMALL artificial tree for now. I've scaled down the ornaments that I have (now they are mostly ballerinas and Nutcrackers) and the kids have a small handful that is starting to grow. Once we outgrow our tree and have a bigger place to live, I'm excited for a larger, real tree.

Unfortunately, our artificial tree does not smell like a real tree...but fortunately I have found an amazing candle from Sea Love Candles called Maine Pine!! I LOVE candles, but so many brands give me headaches. Sea Love Candles are handmade in Maine, smell amazing, and do not give me headaches! Please check this amazing company out and consider ordering some for yourself or for some holiday gifts...
