Beware of Joy-Thieves

I don't think that anyone can say that 2020 has been an easy year. In addition to the health crisis and economic hardships, the division and negativity has been greater than I could have imagined was possible. It has been hard to remain positive and joyful during this time, but it has been a constant goal of mine. It's not an easy one, but I have found a couple of things that help me.
I focus on the goodness and faithfulness of God. He has brought me through many trials and hardships, and I know that I can trust Him to bring me through this year.
I avoid what I call joy-thieves. This is different for everyone, so you have to recognize what it is that attempts to steal your joy and cause you to become depressed, angry, or anxious. For example, I have realized that I have to limit my exposure/conversations about politics. Especially at the end of a full day when I need to relax and wind down. (watching a British drama is more my cup of tea 😉)
I try to remember to be grateful and appreciate all of the "little" things in life, like the opportunity to workout and spend time with my kids.
Romans 12:12 says to “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer," and is wonderful advice for this season of life. When the troubles and craziness of the this life try to steal your joy, focus on the hope that we have in God and do not neglect to come to Him in prayer!
